Pricing subject to FX and raw-material availability.

Colombian climate and regulatory environment

Designed for NSR-10, coastal winds and tropical corrosion.

Colombia has sharply contrasting climates and seismic zones: the Coffee Region with high seismic acceleration, the Caribbean Coast with 120+ km/h winds and salt-laden air, and the Andes with high humidity. Every building is designed specifically for its context and audited by independent engineering.

NSR-10 seismic zones

Zone 1 (low, southern Huila), Zone 2 (medium, Bogotá and central Andes) and Zone 3 (high, Coffee Region). Our LGS structures use certified bracing and ductile connections tuned for each zone.

Regional winds

Caribbean and Pacific coasts: 120–150 km/h. Andes: 80–100 km/h. We design for historical regional maxima with certified anchorage and tested dynamic resistance.

Coastal corrosion

Barranquilla, Cartagena and Santa Marta require galvanizing + multi-coat epoxy. Humid Andes: dual epoxy. Dry interior (Bogotá, Medellín): standard paint with rust inhibitor.

Tropical rainfall and drainage

Enclosures sloped 5–8% with certified gutter systems for tropical runoff. LGS thermal insulation tailored to high-humidity Andes and Coast conditions.

Project typology in Colombia

Structures we're building today in the Colombian market.

From logistics warehouses on the Sabana de Bogotá plateau to metalworking plants in Medellín, schools in the provinces, retail in Cali and hospitality on the Coast — these are the projects PEB delivers in Colombia.

Logistics warehouses (Sabana de Bogotá)

Distribution platforms of 3,000–8,000 m² in Funza, Mosquera and Tocancipá. Clear spans of 24–30 m, 7–9 m height. Seismic zone 2, 90 km/h winds. Assembly in 8–12 weeks.

Industrial plants (Medellín)

Light manufacturing, textiles and metalworking in Valle de Aburrá. 2,000–5,000 m² with loading docks and overhead rail. High seismic zone — full reinforcement.

Schools and institutions

Classrooms, labs and libraries of 1,500–3,500 m² in the provinces. Steel + brick + concrete. Enhanced NSR-10. Turnkey: structure, MEP, finishes. 16–20 weeks.

Manufacturing plants (Yumbo/Cali)

Heavy structures with traveling cranes and specialized machinery supports. CNC-fabricated gussets, plates and anchors. 24/7 supervision. 12–16 weeks.

Retail and shopping centers

Mixed steel-concrete structures, parking decks and anchor tenants. 5,000–15,000 m². NSR-10 with 130 km/h coastal winds. Seismic damping where applicable. 14–18 weeks.

Hospitality and coast projects

Hotels and resorts in Cartagena and Santa Marta with enhanced galvanizing + epoxy. Maximum-saline environment. Caribbean hurricane design for 25+ year durability.

Operational coverage — Colombia

Direct presence in 7 major cities.

PEB maintains a technical office, warehouse and trained crews in Colombia's main industrial corridors. Response time 48–72 hours. No cascading subcontractors: our teams supervise every project directly.

  • Bogotá D.C. — design office, 3 crews, Seismic zone 2
  • Medellín — Coffee Region hub, 2 crews, high seismic zone 3
  • Cali — Valle del Cauca, 2 crews, manufacturing specialty
  • Barranquilla — Caribbean Coast, maximum salt corrosion
  • Cartagena — tourism and commercial, premium materials
  • Bucaramanga — Santander region, institutional buildings
  • Santa Marta — northern Caribbean, hospitality and retail

For projects outside permanent-crew zones: we deploy teams from the nearest city with a 7–14 day protocol. Transport and per diems are included in the initial quote with no surprise costs.

FAQ — Colombia

Frequently asked questions about steel construction in Colombia

Cost per m², timelines, NSR-10 compliance and coverage across 7 main cities. If your question isn’t here, email us at info@peb-americas.com — an engineer will reply within 24 business hours.

How much does industrialized steel construction cost in Colombia in 2026?

2026 ranges: industrial warehouses USD 380–550/m²; commercial buildings USD 500–700/m²; institutional buildings USD 600–900/m², with NSR-10 seismic factors included. Ranges vary with city, structural complexity, seismic zone and finish level; MEP, special finishes and permits are itemized separately in each quotation.

How long does an industrial warehouse take in Colombia?

A 2,000 m² industrialized warehouse takes ≈ 4 months for fabrication plus erection, with municipal permitting typically running in parallel (4–6 weeks depending on the country). A 2,000–3,000 m² turnkey project — design, permits, fabrication, civil works and erection — takes ≈ 28 weeks, with fabrication overlapping the civil works. A 5,000 m² building with cold storage and offices: 9–12 months. Compared with traditional concrete, the system is typically 4–5 months faster for comparable scope.

Which code governs steel construction in Colombia?

NSR-10, Colombia’s seismic-resistant building code, which requires detailed dynamic analysis in seismic hazard zones. Our projects are modeled in BIM with dynamic seismic analysis and NSR-10 compliance from day one, alongside AISC and AISI S100-16 for cold-formed steel.

How are projects fabricated and delivered in Colombia?

Structures are CNC-fabricated in the Panama Free Trade Zone with documented export, and installed by our local operation in Colombia — coverage across 7 main cities: Bogotá D.C., Medellín, Cali, Barranquilla, Cartagena, Bucaramanga and Santa Marta.

How does the quotation process work for a project in Colombia?

Four steps: (1) discovery call to define scope, schedule and objectives; (2) preliminary reference budget at ±20% in 7 business days; (3) design contract producing detailed BIM and a fixed lump-sum quote on shop drawings; (4) construction & supply contract — the design fee is credited against the final contract.
